<br />To piggyback on our most recent post discussing the dangers of wi-fi thermostats, the overall risks associated with advancing technology cannot be ignored. This post may seem a little off topic, but given that the HVAC field is being affected by new technology just about as much as everything else is, we believe the topic is appropriate. Seemingly, with convenience and ease being the focal point of said technological advancements, it's easy to ignore the cons hiding behind all the pros.<br />
<br />
Famed astrophysicist Stephen Hawking has gone on record as stating that technology is likely to eventually kill us. "We face a number of threats to our survival from nuclear war, catastrophic global warming, and genetically engineered viruses. The number is likely to increase in the future, with the development of new technologies, and new ways things can go wrong."<br />
<br />
As silly as it sounds, there is now a spinal condition being called "Text Neck". Kenneth Hansraj, the chief of spine surgery at New York Spine Surgery
and Rehabilitation Medicine, has found that the increased stress on your
spine from constantly staring down at a phone or tablet could lead to “early wear, tear, degeneration and possibly
surgeries”.<br />
<br />
Advancements in technology have also led to increased inactivity. Consultant orthopaedic surgeon Jonathan Dearing states that by far the biggest threat arising from technology is the reduction
of physical activity – the fourth biggest cause of death worldwide. Inactivity leads to obesity, and it means risk of cardiovascular disease is greatly increased.<br />
<br />
The above stated are just a couple out of many examples on how advancements in technology are impacting the overall health of the human species. While many positive things are happening with technology, they are coming at the sacrifice of other positive things that we probably take for granted. So the question is; is all the convenience and ease worth it in the end?<br />

<br />In an article from February of this year, the New York Times noted several steps to take in making sure your household smart devices remain secure from the threat of being hacked. The article explains that overall, online attacks on home devices are still relatively uncommon. But that the market for household smart devices is growing very rapidly, which means more and more hackers will begin to target said devices. All it takes is for a hacker to gain access to just one of these smart devices and that basically compromises the security of all the wi-fi devices in that home. 10% of American consumers have reported being hacked via a household device in a recent study done by the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company. Those who were victims reported anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000 in losses from the incident.<br />
<br />
As stated in a previous blog post from last month, one must keep in mind that all these great and convenient technological advancements can also bring with them a considerable amount of online security vulnerabilities. But the good news is that there are some fairly simple steps that can be taken to greatly reduce those threats. For example, setting up 2 separate wi-fi networks, one for your tablet(s) and computer(s), and the other for all the other household smart devices. This can help isolate any security breaches and also helps restrict the amount of devices exposed to the hack. Another great example is just to take the time to research the reviews and product info for the different brands of smart devices out there. A lot of the manufacturers are really starting to make better security improvements for their products.<br />
<br />
These were just a couple of examples of improving your home cyber security. It is evident that the cool spring air has given way to warm humidity. This will certainly lead to an increase in A/C usage. A sudden dependance on your cooling system can sometimes reveal issues that have lain dormant since last summer. This is why it is extremely important to have your systems maintained. The last thing you want to happen is to find your A/C is nonfunctioning on the hottest day of the year. The same goes for your heating components as well. A pro-active check can sometimes be the saving grace for your system, catching problems before they develop into huge issues. Consider a check up for your HVAC system, and save yourself the future headache.<br />

<br />
Most people can relate to the sensation of being too hot, or feeling too much humidity. Some would argue that this lack of comfort is distracting, and not condusive to productivity. When you are focused on your environment, you inherently take some focus away from your work. <br />
The main factor that should determine what your thermostat is set to is personal comfort. Furthermore , personal comfort is subjective, and what is right for you may not be comfortable for someone else. Personally, I am very much aware of the fact that I prefer temperatures between 65'F-72'F, That being said if a coworker of mine doesnt share those same standards, said person could customize their A/C zone through various methods. <br />
The first, and easiest method would be to personalize the air distribution settings for your system. This can be done by simply adjusting the amount of air flow through your vents, allowing more air to large open spaces, and less air to smaller offices. Vents can even be closed in order to bypass unused rooms, or at the request of an individual who is more comfortable in warm environments. These steps can also be applied to heating during the winter.<br />
The second, more comprehensive method would be to invest in a split-system HVAC, or alternatively to install a second system. With a second system, and the installation of a second thermostat, you can regulate various zones of your home, or office. These methods will ensure that every individual is happy, productive, and comfortable in their environment.<br />

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> </span><span style="font-size: small;"> In this age of highly advanced technology, the developed world enjoys a level of relative safety, and comfort that is unparalled in human history. The list of convenient tech goes on and on, but notable examples of inventions with a far reaching societal impact are things like vehicular transport, kitchen appliances, and HVAC systems. Subsequently, each citizen in most cases needs to manage repairs, and maintenance for many different products throughout the course of owning said products. Unfortunately, sometimes this process is neglected, and the negative effects WILL make themselves apparent down the road. No oil in your car? Add more...or your car will be nothing more than an expensive driveway decoration. This is an undeniable fact, and yet every year countless vehicles are rendered useless, caused solely by neglect to maintain their intricate inner workings. This line of thinking can be applied to basically any mechanical system. If your system is not maintained, in most cases the result will be higher levels of failure, and a decrease in productivity. </span><br />
Furthermore, it is important to realize which of these appliances are connected to our biology. If your refridgerator is not filtering water properly, you will tastes the difference. It is even possible that this issue could lead to sickness caused by the consumption of non-purified water. For most people this is not a problem because (conveniently) the prevalence of water quality monitors has mitigated this issue. Now, when your water filter needs to be changed a handy light will appear on the dispenser to let you know. Most people would shudder at the thought of drinking water from an out of date, or dirty water filter. How, then does air quality fall by the wayside? <br />
"Out of sight, Out of mind". This simple expression is fundamental to the thought process behind neglecting your air filters. The primary method of checking the status of your air quality is to simply take a look at your air filters. Furthermore, to be absolutely certain that no foreign particulates, or allergens are aggregating in your system, it is advisable to have your system properly inspected, and maintained by a professional. It is easy to forget, or dismiss the fact that changing your filters is a necessity, however failure to routinely change your filters can lead to some very serious issues. Especially for children whose lungs are not yet fully developed. Asthma, which has been proven to manifest itself naturally, can also be an effect of poor air quality. Lung function can be greatly hindered by the inhalation of dust, mold, or other airborne contaminants. It is imperative to the health, and safety of anyone who regularly spends time in air conditioned spaces to keep a record of HVAC Service, so as to know when your system needs to be serviced, maintained, or replaced due to old age. Your lungs will thank you!<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7qBD0xrWnQt_hyphenhyphen5EZD-OZFPZzRqsRvh6D0lHc7iRDIAhwOh8utLeQmk_UoFwuDcd1RWsGP6dgvSU0AhGMgcgjRP5FwpeUQm46MDoDu4b9vRE2QvyS8ngY-IU6Z_4M59dwzacrGY7KKoM/s1600/hacked.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="167" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7qBD0xrWnQt_hyphenhyphen5EZD-OZFPZzRqsRvh6D0lHc7iRDIAhwOh8utLeQmk_UoFwuDcd1RWsGP6dgvSU0AhGMgcgjRP5FwpeUQm46MDoDu4b9vRE2QvyS8ngY-IU6Z_4M59dwzacrGY7KKoM/s320/hacked.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />Technological advancements are happening faster now than at any other time in human history. "Smart" phones, watches, TVs, and even thermostats can be purchased with ease by anyone. Whether you want to make purchases online thru your TV or change the temperature in your house a couple of degrees from work before you head home, the conveniences are unparalleled. But along with anything seemingly great, comes the realization of the risks associated with the potential downsides. It's a known fact that anything considered to be Wi-Fi compatible is completely at risk to be hacked. Tech analysts worldwide are adamant about the relative ease of hacking with all these new "smart" gadgets. <br />
<br />
It doesn't necessarily even take a tech savvy person to remotely access one of these said gadgets. Take, for example, a review left by a jilted ex-lover on Amazon.com in regards to his great satisfaction with purchasing a Honeywell Wi-Fi thermostat:<br />
<br />
<i>"Since this past Ohio winter has been so cold I've been messing with the
temp while the new love birds are sleeping. Doesn't everyone want to
wake up at 7 AM to a 40 degree house? When they are away on their
weekend getaways, I crank the heat up to 80 degrees and back down to 40
before they arrive home. I can only imagine what their electricity bills
might be. It makes me smile. I know this won't last forever, but I
can't help but smile every time I log in and see that it still works. I
also can't wait for warmer weather when I can crank the heat up to 80
degrees while the love birds are sleeping. After all, who doesn't want
to wake up to an 80 degree home in the middle of June?"</i><br />
<br />
More than 8,200 of the 8,490 Amazon users who have read the review deemed it "useful." Security research engineers have heavily emphasized the inherent hacking vulnerabilities of these devices, even ones with the ability to restrict user access. According to networkworld.com, more than 73,000 internet connected cameras were found to be streaming their footage on the web in any given month in 2016. Consumers were found to have never changed the default passwords and unwittingly allowed hackers to stream the private footage from cameras that they had initially purchased to feel safer.<br />
<br />
Higher-end "smart" home products are starting to be designed with higher security standards, and as the market matures, it's predicted that most all products will follow suit. But for now, security standards for today's "smart" products are still a work in progress, so for the time being, consumers may still find themselves exposed to security-related vulnerabilities.<br />

Spring is here which means prices on new A/C systems are at their best of the year! The in-between peak seasons periods(spring / fall) are the
most sluggish time periods sales-wise, and in an effort to keep products
moving along, manufacturers are
forced to lower their prices on new systems. So needless to say, if you've been thinking about having that old inefficient clunker of an A/C replaced, there's no better time than now! Plus, A/C replacement appointments during this time can often be completed within 24 hours of receiving your quote!<br />
<br />
Not
only during these times does the cost of a new system go down, but also
the interest rate that goes along with financing that new system! Trust me, you don't want to wait until the weather gets hot and demand goes back up, because so will the prices and interest rates!
At Environmental, we offer free quotes on system replacements with no
pressure or hassle. Our quotes are good for 30 days, so if you're even
thinking you might need a new system before too long, strike now while
the iron is hot! Give us a call!<br />

<br />Mild winters are often followed up by a hot spring and/or summer. So, if you
are willing to get your spring Preventative Maintenance done a little
early this year, the chances of getting any replacement parts you may
need or any
other service done that you may require as identified by your
Preventative Maintenance technician, you will receive the fastest
service available. That often means same day parts replacement
appointments! Turn-around time on these appointments is the fastest
during this time of year.<br />
<br />
A Preventative Maintenance
Contract can more than pay for itself in
fewer emergency repairs and lower utility bills alone. Not to mention, most major HVAC corporations technically require customers to have routine maintenance done by a licensed company in order to be covered by their parts warranty. As with your
vehicle or really any mechanical item, routine maintenance is a must!
There are a
multitude of things that can cause your heating and a/c unit to fail as
well as take years off it's life, and most of these things can't be
found unless you are proactive and have someone with a trained eye who
can spot the immediate warning signs. Whether it's low refrigerant in
your heat pump(which can cause your heat strips to stay on all the time
during the winter and/or your a/c to run continuously during the summer =
high energy bill) or a furnace with a cracked heat
exchanger(which produces the deadly gas Carbon Monoxide), or just all
around dirt and grime(which greatly decreases efficiency), there really
is no downside to signing up for a Preventative Maintenance Contract.
If nothing else, it will be to have the peace of mind knowing that you
don't have to worry about your heating and a/c, as we keep a detailed
record of your system's specifications and tendencies. To learn more
about Environmental's Preventative Maintenance Plan or if you have any
questions about anything else we can help you with, please visit our

<br />According to a recent Economic Times article, your a/c can affect your sleeping more than you think, and perhaps not how you think. In a recent study by the Journal of Energy and Buildings, participants had significantly greater physical movements, increased heart rates and a higher frequency of wake-ups when the velocity was set at a certain rate. These results increased even more on participants with lower body strength and / or a greater sensitivity to cold. In a similar study, researchers at Toyohashi University of Technology in Japan found that the airflow from a standard central a/c system stimulates the human body while sleeping and impacts sleeping conditions even at low airflow levels. For a further breakdown and more information, please click on the link below to go straight to the article. A very interesting read to say the least.<br />

<br />Engineers at the University of Colorado Boulder have invented a thin film that can actually cool objects without the use of water or electricity! This invention works to lower the temperature of the surface beneath it through a process known as "passive cooling", meaning that it vents the object's heat via thermal radiation while bouncing off any incoming solar energy that may negate those losses. This is a pretty astounding development and it could mean huge strides in energy efficiency for both residential and commercial applications! <br />Can you install a condensing furnace(90% + efficiency) in an unconditioned attic? That is a common question we get here every winter at Environmental Heating & Air. The short answer is technically yes you can. But it should be noted that according to most leading HVAC equipment manufacturer installation manuals, it is recommended that condensing furnaces NOT be installed in unconditioned spaces. The main reason being due to the freezing of condensation produced from normal system operation. Condensing furnaces are high efficiency furnaces that cause condensation as part of the heating process. Freezing temps in an unconditioned attic can cause the condensation to freeze, halting system operation, eventually causing the drain pipes to crack, equaling significant water damage to ceilings and/or any drywall. Which is why a lot of HVAC service companies will not install condensing furnaces in unconditioned attics, it's just not worth the risk. There are extra steps that can be taken to ensure condensation drain lines will not freeze, but even said steps still run a chance of failure resulting in an expensive situation for the homeowner.<br />
<br />
<br />
The good news is that with current advancements in HVAC technology, I can't imagine that an unconditioned space compliant condensing furnace is far off. Manufacturers today are making great strides in furnace efficiency at a very fast pace. So let's hope more versatile high efficiency furnaces are in our near future!<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhP0FdAh02oyo3lYHf0ki9DCiVepXoqXnyfFogM-Msr0PJUba27pwBeT1Z0ECXXwXwfvNZ-_H1PfGfRop1jjelYLFJiBhMgD9XMIeXxFKYkCGIOSh_CKF23eGI3pRJVhwl__E8hxUDR_p0/s1600/crackedexchanger.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhP0FdAh02oyo3lYHf0ki9DCiVepXoqXnyfFogM-Msr0PJUba27pwBeT1Z0ECXXwXwfvNZ-_H1PfGfRop1jjelYLFJiBhMgD9XMIeXxFKYkCGIOSh_CKF23eGI3pRJVhwl__E8hxUDR_p0/s320/crackedexchanger.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I know it's been posted on here a few times about furnace safety in the past, but being made aware of the risks involved with cracked heat exchangers in furnaces can never be emphasized too much! If you have a furnace in your home that's more than a few years
old, you need to have a trained and certified professional inspect it
and
provide you with an overall assessment of your heat exchanger and
burners. You and your family's lives may depend on it! If a crack or
pinhole in the heat exchanger is found by a technician, they will then
inform you of this find and advise you on how to proceed. <br />
<br />
Cracked heat exchangers can produce the odorless gas Carbon Monoxide, the
silent killer. Carbon Monoxide has no smell, color, or taste and can
only be detected by CO detectors and specialized equipment. There
is only really two possible options after a crack is found, 1) replace
the heat exchanger, or 2) replace the entire furnace. Depending on how
old the furnace is will determine the wisest path to take. Most major
brands of furnaces now offer 10 - 20 year heat exchanger warranties, in
which case
you should only be charged labor by the company you use to replace it.
At Environmental, we always work with the customer to figure out the
most sensible option based on the age of the unit and your financial
situation.<br />
<br />
Remember, a cracked heat
exchanger and/or deteriorating burners are a recipe for disaster!
Carbon Monoxide is very dangerous and at the very least you should have
one CO detector present for every floor of your home. Signing up for a Preventative
Maintenance Plan will catch these dangers early and can also prevent them
from happening in the first place, thus extending the life of your
system. Just give us a call and we would be glad to answer your
questions and get you signed up today!<br />

Time is running out to take advantage of this year's tax credits on qualifying hvac equipment, both residential and small business! Roughly half of all energy used in an average household goes to heating and cooling, so why not upgrade to take advantage of the savings? At Environmental Heating & Air, great financing is available to help offset your total cost, couple that with the above mentioned tax credit, and you can be well on your way to some very beneficial savings! It is important to note that the available tax credits being offered by the government are only for QUALIFYING system upgrades, so it's important to check and make sure the equipment you're going to purchase will qualify. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibYPu64vwQc8X8yTEGYQf-S8F85RHSalr4Q8kiZy50QyJTUSKxtotES0200UbHUFOXnbX6qtP66QKpKc17OaaCc191Xr3VJbtg7EfPjX6F9o_EDVCZTC5p-nNBxI88e5tqDvv3mBUblzA/s1600/dirtysock.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibYPu64vwQc8X8yTEGYQf-S8F85RHSalr4Q8kiZy50QyJTUSKxtotES0200UbHUFOXnbX6qtP66QKpKc17OaaCc191Xr3VJbtg7EfPjX6F9o_EDVCZTC5p-nNBxI88e5tqDvv3mBUblzA/s320/dirtysock.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />During certain times of the year, like the present, when a heat pump may warm in the
morning hours and then cool at noon and later hours, it can produce
condensate from noon on which fuels organic debris decay resulting in microorganism growth in and around the evaporator coil for up to 16 hours — only to
release odor and toxins during the next morning’s warming hours. Heat
pump coil temperatures are often not sufficient enough to kill proliferating
microbes. Those that may die simply serve as a future food source for
continued proliferation.<br />
<br />
A thorough coil cleaning will make a difference, but the problem will usually return. That's why, in addition to regular cleanings by an HVAC professional, UV-C lights are a must in eradicating all microbial growth. UV-C lights kill microbes of all kinds and types and, like bleach,
disassociates their carcasses and other organic materials. UV-C lights produce very little heat, no odor, and leave no secondary
contamination behind — and it operates continuously as long as the blower wheel is engaged, which means no
build-up of microbial matter! UV-C lights can now be purchased for relatively cheap and installation is usually quite brief. Consult your local HVAC service provider today to get rid of that pesky dirty sock odor for good!<br />

A very common concern from homeowners during the wintertime is "why is my heat pump blowing
out cool air in heat mode?" Well, there's a good chance your body is
actually playing a trick on you. Think about it, your body temperature
is approximately 98 degrees at any given time, so when you run your hand
or foot across that air register, odds are it's going to feel somewhat
cool. The key is to keep an eye on your thermostat. If the heat pump
is maintaining whatever temperature you are setting the heat at, then
it's doing its job and there is likely nothing wrong with the heat
pump. The discharge air temperature on a heat pump isn't as warm as a
gas furnace's. When the outdoor temperature starts to get down into the
mid thirties, heat pumps begin losing their efficiency and the
auxiliary heat will then become the main source of heat.<br />
<br />
If
your heat pump system is having trouble maintaining the temperature you
have set on the thermostat, then you probably have a legit problem such
as low refrigerant, dirty air filter(s), dirty/restricted outdoor unit,
etc. As with any system, a regular maintenance plan from a licensed
company can help identify and prevent problems before they happen at the
worst of times. Our certified
technicians are always willing to answer any questions you may have
about your heating and a/c unit as well as inform you on what to
expect. Give us a call today!<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
With the winter season not far away, it's a great time to take advantage of some great prices on higher efficiency furnaces! Manufacturers are continuing to make great strides in improving overall furnace operation and convenience. It's now getting easier and easier for homeowners to purchase high efficiency furnaces with better prices and more flexibility on installation options. In other words, if you want to upgrade that old inefficient gas furnace with a brand new 90+ percent high efficiency gas furnace, it can now be done with little to no modifications to your existing gas lines and location!<br />
<br />
First off, the best model furnaces to go with, efficiency wise, are the Energy Star
qualified furnaces. The efficiency of
new furnaces is measured by the annual fuel utilization
efficiency(AFUE), which is a measure of seasonal performance. Furnaces
today are rated between 80% AFUE and 98% AFUE. Above 90% AFUE, a unit
is considered to be "condensing", which means it recaptures some of the
heat that would be wasted in traditional systems by condensing the
escaping water vapor. 80-89% AFUE furnaces are still good furnaces,
they are much better and more efficient than older style furnaces and
are more affordable up front than the 90-98% high efficiency furnaces.
However, the 80-89% furnaces do not qualify for Energy Star programs.
The 90%-98% high efficiency furnaces are more expensive, but they do
qualify for rebate programs which can earn you some nice cash in
return. Not to mention, your gas/utility bill(s) will take a noticeable
dip in usage. Great financing is currently available at really low rates! Which in turn can make the 90-98% Energy Star rated
furnaces much more affordable. Just give us a call or your trusted
heating and air company in your area a call and take advantage of the
great costs and efficiencies before the actual cold season gets here.

<br />We are now less than a month away from the first day of autumn! Right now is the best time to take advantage of what we call the "in-between season". So what are the advantages of being proactive in an in-between season? Everything from reduced pricing on new furnaces, heat pumps, and air conditioners to simply having the peace of mind that your heating system will be ready for the upcoming fall and winter seasons with a proactive Preventative Maintenance done by a certified and licensed pro. So if
you
are willing to get your fall Preventative Maintenance done a little
early this year, you will get any replacement parts you may need and / or any
other service done that you may require as identified by your
Preventative Maintenance technician at the quickest turnaround time of the year! <br />
<br />
A Preventative Maintenance contract can more than pay for itself in
fewer emergency repairs and lower utility bills alone. There are a
multitude of things that can cause your heating and a/c unit to fail as
well as take years off it's life, and most of these things can't be
found unless you are proactive and have someone with a trained eye who
can spot the immediate warning signs. Whether it's low refrigerant in
your heat pump(which can cause your heat strips to stay on all the time
during the winter = high energy bill) or a furnace with a cracked heat
exchanger(which produces the deadly gas Carbon Monoxide), there really
is no downside to signing up for a Preventative Maintenance Contract.
If nothing else it will be to have the peace of mind knowing that you
don't have to worry about your heating and a/c, as we keep a detailed
record of your system's specifications and tendencies. To learn more

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikTpjeW7oxo2W84KEP1W7bmlWYeKFDPl4CavREDXJe_VTBlvI0w1c1Bo-K5Lt-I109QL2nuC9tLAMExQspObVZqlzqEmITx3-qLHcqr1XCDJbU_s2A4NQnFncNZmi84YHawMNe4wLXmyM/s1600/custservice.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikTpjeW7oxo2W84KEP1W7bmlWYeKFDPl4CavREDXJe_VTBlvI0w1c1Bo-K5Lt-I109QL2nuC9tLAMExQspObVZqlzqEmITx3-qLHcqr1XCDJbU_s2A4NQnFncNZmi84YHawMNe4wLXmyM/s320/custservice.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
At Environmental, we've discovered that the more information a customer is able to provide about their a/c and/or heating system, the more prepared our service technicians can be to expedite getting the customer's system back up and running. While our service technicians have a wealth of knowledge and can solve really any problem with a malfunctioning hvac system, a lot of times it's the customer that can provide the most important observable information that saves everyone both time and money. <br />
<br />
For example, there are instances when a customer will call and say their a/c is no longer cooling. We then ask if they are receiving any air flow at all or is it a case where the air that is coming out is just warm or room temperature? By simply knowing this, the customer can quite possibly eliminate one whole part of a system and isolate right away where the malfunctioning part likely lies. Again, every bit of info a customer can provide us before the initial service appointment can possibly end up saving them a good deal of money on labor costs and return trips. By no means are we asking people to be experts on the subject, just simple observations noted by the customer can provide time saving clues much like a witness to a crime. This is especially crucial for those mysterious intermittent problems that need to be directly observed in order to properly diagnose the issue. There are separate autonomous electrical and mechanical systems at work within any single hvac system. If one of these independent circuits or refrigerant flow systems were to begin to malfunction, it can cause the whole system to perform inefficiently or very likely not at all. So when a customer is able to report their direct observance, it often allows the servicing technician to know beforehand what to expect and where to start.<br />
<br />
Any information is good information when reporting a problem with your home's hvac system. Your professional servicing technician and your wallet will thank you!<br />

<br />Did you know that proper landscaping can can have quite a significant effect on the energy efficiency in your home during the warmer months? The Department of Energy claims that the shade from having trees properly planted around your home can lower the surrounding air temperature by as much as 9 degrees. It might not sound like a lot, but that actually can have considerable impact on your air conditioner's energy consumption. Proper landscaping involves planting the right kind of trees and shrubs in strategic locations to accurately account for the positions of the sun throughout the day and the moving shadows your trees and shrubs will create. The Department of Energy website goes in-depth on this as well as choosing trees that will also be helpful during the colder months as well. The link is provided below. Please take a moment and check out the Department of Energy website and learn how to start saving money while staying cool....<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnhr1TB9871XEpf8mfbCA_i0qo9y5OlHMauaq4WuRTGIf3jRLbv6O8rQT3nInLPNra4CksRzJaOXr7sNvgwJz4yo3QtY2I4GuXkWQIL4YFTBs2pb5s2VcCdm8QL3uPg8HGR5fImAvzDK8/s1600/purchasing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnhr1TB9871XEpf8mfbCA_i0qo9y5OlHMauaq4WuRTGIf3jRLbv6O8rQT3nInLPNra4CksRzJaOXr7sNvgwJz4yo3QtY2I4GuXkWQIL4YFTBs2pb5s2VcCdm8QL3uPg8HGR5fImAvzDK8/s320/purchasing.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
At certain times of the year, the price of purchasing a new heating
and air conditioning unit is at it's absolute lowest. Those times take
place most often at the end of the year and also when supply/demand
dictates. For example, right now! The between seasons period is the
most sluggish period sales-wise, and in an effort to keep products
moving along, manufacturers are
forced to lower their prices on new systems. Which in turn is very
beneficial to the customer, that kinda goes without saying.<br />
<br />
Not
only during these times does the cost of a new system go down, but also
the interest rate that goes along with financing that new system! It's
a well known fact that the economy is bad right now and couple that
with the above mentioned weather, and you've got yourself a perfect time
to purchase that new system that you've had in the back of your mind
that you know will need purchasing soon. So I'm just trying to help you
folks out by filling you in on the best times of the year to get that
new system! Trust me, you don't want to wait until the weather changes
and demand goes back up, because so will the prices and interest rates!
At Environmental, we offer free quotes on system replacements with no
pressure or hassle. Our quotes are good for 30 days, so if you're even
thinking you might need a new system before too long, strike now while
the iron is hot! Give us a call! <br />

It's routine maintenance season! The weather is mild, not too cool, not
too warm. In other words, we are in between peak seasons of heating
and a/c usage. So, if you
are willing to get your spring Preventative Maintenance done a little
early this year, the chances of getting any replacement parts you may
need or any
other service done that you may require as identified by your
Preventative Maintenance technician, you will receive the fastest
service available! That often means same day parts replacement
appointments. Turn around time on these appointments is the fastest
during this time of year.<br />
<br />
A Preventative Maintenance
Contract can more than pay for itself in
fewer emergency repairs and lower utility bills alone.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
It may be getting about time to replace that old thermostat on your
wall, especially if it is the old mercury style. At Environmental, we
do not recommend attempting to install a brand new
thermostat yourself. It is always best left to a certified professional
as they are able to ensure that you are putting up the right thermostat
for your particular system and that it is installed correctly.
Especially now with the invention of the more complicated "learning"
thermostats like the Nest. However, there's probably a lot of you out
there who will still do it
yourself to save some money, which is completely understandable.<br />
<br />
Well, for all you do-it-yourselfers
out there and anybody who would just like some great general knowledge
about the process, we have a youtube channel that you can check out at <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/Environc" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/user/Environc</a>.
There's also a couple more videos on there with some great general
knowledge stuff, so just subscribe for free to the Environmental youtube
channel and stay in the know! As always, thanks for reading!<br />

If you're one of those people who decided to take advantage of
purchasing a high efficiency heating and air conditioning system, these
freezing cold days and nights must be making you glad you did! Did you
know that if you upgrade to a high efficiency heating and a/c system,
you could reduce your home's energy consumption by up to 30 - 40%? Not
to mention, most local utility companies offer special incentives to
their customers who purchase Energy Star qualified heating and a/c
equipment!<br />
<br />
While it is more money up front to purchase
one of these systems, you more than make your money back in energy
usage. Here at Environmental, we have awesome financing options that can easily fit your budget! With heating and air conditioning accounting for approximately
56% of the energy usage in your home, purchasing a high efficiency
system is truly a wise investment.<br />
<br />
Always remember,
just because you purchase high efficiency equipment, it means nothing if
the equipment isn't properly installed. Qualified professionals from a
reputable company, like Environmental Heating & Air, should be the only ones tasked with installing your
new high efficiency heating and a/c equipment. These certified
technicians will also be able to spot other key factors in your home
that can lead to poor efficiency: outdated insulation, window and door
air leaks, unsealed ductwork, etc...<br />
<br />
Bottom line is,
if you're serious about saving money and using less energy, a high
efficiency heating and air system is what you need! Ask anyone who has
one, right now they are sitting comfortably while saving money!<br />
